Yangfo Sporting Club’s stand against polygamy applauded

Itanagar: The Yangfo Sporting Club (YSC), affiliated with the Yangfo Welfare Society (YWS), has garnered praise for its stance against polygamy during the recent unveiling of their football jerseys for the upcoming Nyokum Yullo celebrations.

The club’s theme, “Say No to Polygamy,” has resonated with many, highlighting the importance of addressing social issues like gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The YWS had adopted the resolution in its Conference held in November last year.

Among the prominent organizations to laud the YSC and YWS was the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) which termed the initiative as “truly commendable and one that fosters positive changes in the society’s perspective on polygamy”.

APWWS president Kani Nada Maling said a similar resolution was passed at the 5th Tagin Cultural Society Conference in December 2021, where a proposal to ban individuals involved in polygamy from contesting for or holding the positions of president and secretary-general was adopted.

Maling commended the proactive measures taken by organizations like the Yangfo Sporting Club and the Tagin Cultural Society and called for collaboration among various youth organizations and community-based groups to create a better future for women and children.

“Proactive measures taken by diverse organizations can serve as a catalyst for positive social change, fostering values that are aligned with gender equality and women empowerment. These efforts contribute to creating more inclusive and equitable societies. Every individual and group plays a crucial role in combating social challenges. Therefore, I appeal to all organizations to come forward and start the movement #SayNoToPolygamy,” the APWWS president said.
