Arunachal: Sona inaugurates martyr Tape Yajo Dwar

Monigong: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly speaker P D Sona on Wednesday inaugurated the martyr Tape Yajo Dwar at Basang in Karo village in Shi-Yomi district.

Amarveer Tape Yajo laid down his life for the nation in an anti-terrorist operation and was awarded Kirti Chakra, the second highest gallantry award in peace time.

Speaking at the event, Sona said that martyr Tape Yajo has made the entire Shi-Yomi district proud.

The speaker also praised the Indian army for organizing the programme to pay homage to the martyr and pass on the message of his bravery to the people.

“We can sleep in peace because of our armed forces who guard the international borders. Though we have China as our neighbour, we could sleep in peace because of you,” Sona said.

Appealing to the army to recruit more youths from the state, he said the patriotism among Arunachalese will be hard to find in any other parts of the country.

Earlier, the speaker also unveiled the bust of Amarveer Tape Yajo.

COC Major General VK Purohit, Brigadier DS Rathod and Colonel Dilip Singh Rathod were also present.

Naik Tape Yajo hailing from Karo village of Pidi circle of Shi-Yomi was a saga of bravery and gallantry who served the Indian army with distinction for over 12 years and a proud son of Arunachal Pradesh.

He laid down his life during operation against terrorist in Jammu & Kashmir while leading scout of the attacking column tasked to eliminate terrorists in Poonch sector of Jammu & Kashmir life on September 21, 2008.

During the operation, terrorists attacked unexpectedly from a very close range with heavy automatic gun fire and in the ensuing gunfight at close range Naik Tape Yajo was wounded with bullet injury.

Despite being wounded and bleeding profusely, he charged the terrorists at close range and he and his team killed three hardcore terrorists. His gallant action led to the elimination of the terrorists without causing further damage to the nation. Being grievously injured, Naik Tape Yajo succumbed to his injuries and laid down his life on September 22, 2008.

Considering his gallant action, bravery and supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation, Naik Tape Yajo was awarded with Kirti Chakra posthumously.

He was one the most decorated army men with 50th Year of Independence Anniversary Army Medal, Videsh Seva medal with Clasp Bhutan, Special Seva medal with Clasp Suraksha, OP Rakshak Medal, High Altitude Medal, 9 Years Long Service Medal OP Parakram Medal and the prestigious Kriti Chakra posthumously.
