Sona unveils book celebrating Arunachal’s rich heritage

Itanagar: State Legislative Assembly speaker P D Sona on Sunday released a captivating book titled “Folk Tales for Children: Get Back to Your Roots,” at the Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) here.

Authored by Dr Nasi Koje, an assistant professor of English at the DNGC, the book is aimed at fostering a deeper connection with cultural heritage and traditions through the enchanting world of folk tales.

Dr Koje’s book is a delightful journey into the heart of ancestral traditions, social life, and the rich tapestry of cultural differences. It explores the ancient bond between humans and nature, as well as the intriguing realm of superstitious beliefs, offering readers a source of motivation, interest, and enjoyment.

Through moral elements and hidden stories, the book paints a vivid picture of how nature has inspired and shaped human communities throughout history.

With its fantastical elements, “Folk Tales for Children” sparks the imagination, providing readers, especially children, with a mental playground filled with whimsical characters and captivating narratives.

Sona later took to social media to commend Dr Koje for the “effort she invested in bringing forth the literary work.”

“I anticipate that it will contribute significantly to the promotion and preservation of our time-honored folklore. My heartfelt congratulations to the author for this noteworthy accomplishment,” Sona wrote.

A trailblazer in her field, Dr Koje is the first scholar from Arunachal Pradesh to develop a creative model of English textbooks for primary school children, incorporating local folk tales and folksongs.

Her dedication to preserving Boh Ramo Bokar Community literature and her status as the first English doctorate from Shi Yomi district underscores her commitment to cultural heritage and education.

Dr Koje’s previous works include “Study of Oral Discourse Through Adi Folktales of Arunachal” (2016) and she has also co-authored and edited “AAPSU: The Glorious Existence” (2023).

Among others, Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) president YD Thongchi and DNGC principal Dr M Q Khan were present on the occasion.
