RGU Uni-Fest: CM highlights youth’s role in harnessing technology for progress

Rono Hills: Underlining the youth’s pivotal role in driving progress, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday stressed the importance of embracing technology for transformative impact across various sectors.

Addressing the 21st Uni-Fest Celebrations of the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here, the chief minister cited government initiatives like e-filing and e-cabinet systems as examples of technology’s positive influence on governance and development.

Khandu commended RGU’s four-decade-long commitment to the state’s development through academic collaborations and alumni contributions.

He emphasized his personal dedication to supporting the university’s growth, despite the government’s limited direct involvement.

Highlighting the fulfilled commitments since his last visit in 2018, including infrastructural improvements and upcoming projects like the water supply system, Khandu assured continued government support.

The chief minister pledged immediate action on appeals made by RGU Students’ Union president Tagru Bai, promising initiatives such as instituting a gold medal in honor of former chief minister late Dorjee Khandu in the history department and enhancing campus facilities.

Turning to the education sector, Khandu highlighted ongoing efforts to revamp school education and strengthen higher education institutions like TRIHMS and the Arunachal University.

Acknowledging the state government’s unwavering support, RGU vice-chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha expressed gratitude for Khandu’s commitment to fulfilling promises made during his previous visit.

Encouraging active participation in the Uni-Fest, the vice-chancellor emphasized its significance beyond competitions, serving as a platform for camaraderie and preparing students for future challenges.

RGU registrar Dr N T Rikam, dean of student’s welfare Prof Hui Tag and RGUSU president Tagru Bai also spoke on the occasion and highlighted various facets of the celebrations and the naming of the participating house teams after the state’s emblems- mithun, orchid, hollong and hornbill.

The inaugural event featured a captivating cultural presentation showcasing Arunachal’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity, symbolizing unity amidst diversity.

Also in attendance were MLAs Tana Heli, Jike Tako, and Gokar Basar, alongside AAPSU general secretary Ritum Tali and Dr Vaishali Kushwaha, the university’s first lady.

The 3-day Uni-Fest of RGU, the lone Central university of the state, aims to weave together diverse talents, cultures into a celebration of unity and creativity.
