RGU Indigenous Employees Forum gears up for grand foundation day celebration

Rono Hills: The indigenous employees of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), represented by the Rajiv Gandhi University Indigenous Employees Forum (RGUIEF), are preparing to celebrate their Foundation Day in honor of the rich tapestry of indigenous culture.

This momentous occasion is set to unfold on Friday, at the university’s campus here, as announced in a press release.

The event promises to be a noteworthy occasion, with the esteemed presence of Agriculture minister, Tage Taki and senior legislator Ninong Ering, who have given their consent to grace the event.

Additionally, local legislator, Tana Hali Tara and RGU’s very own vice-chancellor, Prof Saket Kushwaha, would also be a part of the event.

The organizing committee, led by Dr David Gao as chairman and Pitam Jomoh, the organizing secretary, along with other dedicated members, are diligently overseeing the preparations for this event.

The celebration promises a colorful Diversity Walk, featuring tribal employees representing various indigenous tribes from the state. The event will also showcase captivating cultural presentations and an array of local cuisines and delicacies, a feast for the senses.

RGUIEF president, Prof Jumyir Basar, highlighted that the forum’s origins trace back to 2007, with the late Prof Pura Tado and Prof Tomo Riba serving as the founding chairman and secretary resepctively.

“The primary aim of celebrating the Foundation Day, while embracing indigenous heritage, is to unite the diverse community of the state, all of whom have played pivotal roles in the university’s growth since its inception, Prof Basar said.

RGU joint registrar, Dr Nani Tamang Jose, emphasized that RGU is akin to a microcosm of Arunachal, comprising people with diverse ideas, cultural backgrounds, and habits. “Consequently, fostering unity and harmony among the university’s diverse populace is crucial for their collective progress and contributions, which ultimately benefit both the university and the state at large,” he said.

Dr David Pertin, also the joint registrar of RGU and RGUIEF vice-president, added that, in the lead-up to the celebrations, the Organizing Committee had orchestrated various sports competitions, including football, volleyball, tug of war, and badminton for both men and women.

Additionally, there were drawing and futsal competitions for children held on October 28 and 29.

The celebration is poised to draw participation from all indigenous faculty members, officers, staff, research scholars, students, and senior alumni of the university.

Furthermore, a host of invitees, including members of the Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) and locals from Doimukh, are expected to partake in the festivities, ensuring it becomes an inclusive and unforgettable occasion.
