Pasighat: In a startling turn of events, a youth was tragically decapitated by a close friend, who subsequently surrendered to the police while carrying the severed head, sources said on Monday.
The incident reportedly unfolded in the Ruksin sub-division of East Siang district.
Preliminary findings suggest that the murder was committed using a sharp weapon, possibly a machete, resulting in the beheading of the victim.
Identified as Shibu Baishya (22), the accused had established a friendship with the 18-year-old victim, whose identity is currently withheld.
At approximately 12 pm on the day of the incident, Baishya led the victim to an abandoned paddy field near National Highway 515, where he launched a vicious attack using a sharp weapon, ultimately decapitating the victim.
In a bizarre twist to the narrative, the accused voluntarily presented himself at the Ruksin police station with the severed head of the victim, choosing to surrender to law enforcement.
Promptly responding to the situation, the Ruksin police took the accused into custody and have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
The suspect is presently undergoing questioning in an effort to shed light on the motivations and circumstances surrounding this tragic event, the source added.
