Building Dreams: APCS officers crowdfund teachers’ quarters in remote village

Seppa: In a heartwarming display of solidarity and commitment to education, a two-unit teachers’ quarters was inaugurated in the remote administrative outpost of Lada in East Kameng district.

What makes this initiative truly special is that it was constructed through the crowd-funding efforts of 57 officers from the 2003 batch of the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service (APCS).

PWD and Home principal secretary Kaling Tayeng inaugurated the quarters, which will benefit the teachers of Government Upper Primary School, Lada.

Commending the officers for their selfless dedication, Tayeng praised their contribution of fifty thousand rupees each, highlighting the cost-effectiveness and efficiency with which the project was executed.

“Given the challenging terrain and the pressing local need in a remote area like Lada, the officers’ contribution is truly commendable,” he said.

“In an area devoid of rental accommodations, this facility will provide comfortable lodging for up to 10 teachers under one roof,” added Tayeng.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the education department, East Kameng deputy commissioner Sachin Rana thanked each officer of the APCS 2003 batch for their philanthropic work.

“I am sure it will be very useful for the dedicated teachers of the Education Department, enabling them to impart quality education to the students,” he said.

The facility, comprising two units, will provide comfortable lodging for up to 10 teachers, addressing the acute shortage of rental accommodations in the area.

Each unit of the MIBT teacher’s quarters is equipped with two bedrooms, a shared toilet, kitchen, dining area, drawing room, and a common veranda.

“It took us two years to complete the quarters, as funds trickled in gradually over time. Nonetheless, I am pleased that we have been able to fulfill the needs of the teachers here,” said Ashok Tajo, an APCS officer, who spearheaded the project from its inception.

The initiative for the teachers’ quarters through crowdfunding originated in October 2021 when two APCS officers, Dahey Sangno (currently serving as CEO of Itanagar Smart City) and Tajo, visited Lada.

Dismayed by the deteriorating condition of the existing wooden cabins housing the teachers, they proposed the idea to their batchmates through a WhatsApp forum, receiving overwhelming support. Subsequent rounds of meetings ensued.

Over the following months, a joint bank account was established for crowdfunding, the architectural plans were finalized, and a local contractor was selected. Actual construction commenced in early 2022.

The officers have further resolved to continue similar socially beneficial collaborative efforts in other districts of the state through crowdfunding, embodying the spirit of community and service.
