Arunachal woman ‘sexually harassed’ by Uber driver in Guwahati

Itanagar: A recent incident in Guwahati, Assam has resulted in the arrest of an Uber cab driver on charges of alleged sexual harassment of a woman hailing from Arunachal Pradesh.

The incident reportedly occurred during a late-night ride on a Thursday last.

This unsettling event unfolded in the vicinity of an Indian Oil petrol station while the woman was traveling from Ganeshguri to Christian Basti within Guwahati. In response to this incident, the victim promptly filed a complaint at the Dispur Police Station, leading to the apprehension of the driver.

The complainant asserted that the Uber driver, identified as Moslem Ali, and a resident of Nagarberra in Assam’s Goalpara district, sexually harassed her around 10:30 pm on that fateful night. It was further alleged that after the misconduct, the accused swiftly fled the scene.

According to the woman’s account, the driver stopped the vehicle, ostensibly for refueling purposes, but proceeded to sexually assault her. She described the driver as capitalizing on the remote and deserted road at that late hour.

Authorities have also confiscated the Uber cab with the registration number AS 25 CC 1847 as part of their investigation.

Drivers pleads innocence:

Meanwhile, the accused driver has publicly maintained his innocence in front of the media.

A report published Pratidin Times claimed that Moslem Ali was heard vehemently stating that he had “not done anything and was being framed”.
