Itanagar: Arunachalee actress Millo Sunka has once again made her mark by winning the ‘Best Actress Award’ at the annual Critics Choice Awards-2024 held in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The Critics Choice Awards recognize excellence in films, web, and short films in India.

Hailing from Hapoli in Lower Subansiri district, Sunka was awarded the Best Actress Award for her role in the short film “Nocturnal Burger,” a 28-minute film that also received the Best Director and Best Short Film awards at the event.

The Critics Choice Awards-2024 also saw “12th Fail,” directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra win the Best Film, with lead actor Vikrant Massey taking home the Best Actor award.

Sunka’s accolades extend beyond national borders as she made history last year as the first actor from Arunachal Pradesh to win the Best Leading Actress award at an international film festival, the prestigious Prisma Rome International Film Awards 2023.

Nocturnal Burger had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2023, the largest independent film festival in the United States, and was also screened at the Aspen Film Festival 2023, an Oscar-qualifying festival.

The film has received acclaim at the Tiéte Film Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where it won awards for Best Narrative Short Film, Best Director for a Narrative Short Film, Best Editing, Best Production Design, and the Bronze Tilapia Award for Social Awareness.

It also received the award for Best “Social Change” at the Short Film Factory in Bucharest, Romania.

Nocturnal Burger was a standout at the Prisma Rome Independent Film Awards in March 2023, winning multiple awards including Best Short Film, Best of the Fest, Best Director, Best Leading Actress for Millo Sunka, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound.

It was also selected as an official entry at the USA Film Festival in April 2023 and The Norwegian Short Film Festival in June 2023.

Aside from her remarkable performance in “Nocturnal Burger,” Sunka has made a name for herself in Bollywood with notable roles in “The Last Hour” (2021) and “Axone” (2019).
