Uncovered: The four-month secret stay of Myanmar youth in Arunachal

Tezu: In what can be described as a potential breach of security, sources close to NewsFy have revealed that one of the three Myanmar nationals who was arrested recently had previously entered India and stayed here for almost two months.

The individual, identified as Adeh Sadi Lisu (25), was among those detained from Kathan village by the Lohit police on August 02.

Alongside Adeh, Akhi Yoha Lisu (22) and Ngwaphata Lisu (20), all from Sago village in the Putao district of Myanmar, were taken into custody and brought to Wakro police station.

Our sources disclosed that Adeh had entered India last year and stayed in Kathan village under Wakro Circle for two months.

Adeh reportedly met Samirso Halai of Kathan village in Deban Forest in January 2023, leading to his extended stay at Samirso’s residence before returning to Myanmar.

This year, in the first week of June, Adeh, along with Akhi and Ngwaphata, returned to Kathan and started staying with Samirso once more.

Adeh was also spotted shopping in Wakro with Samirso on July 01, only to return to Kathan the same day.

Sources indicated that the trio had been residing with Samirso since June, and it was only after two months that they were apprehended from Kathan village.

“So, in total Adeh stayed in India for almost 4 months,” the source said.

The trio reportedly entered India through Vijaynagar, trekking for approximately a week to reach Wakro and interestingly also managed to kill a deer during the trek.

Our sources said that Samirso had employed Adeh at his residence in Kathan village.

“The Mishmi people, who have ancestral land in Kathan, are reportedly concerned about alleged encroachment by the Chakmas of Diyun and often employ individuals to safeguard their farms and property,” the source said.

Adeh reportedly also has a cousin, Phuyosi Yobin, residing in Gandhigram, Vijaynagar, an area inhabited by the Lisu tribe.

It may be mentioned here that the Lisus, also known as Yobins, are part of the Tibeto-Burman family and reside in the adjoining hilly regions of Arunachal, China, Myanmar, and Thailand.

Lohit senior superintendent of police Tumme Amo who confirmed the arrest of the trio said no links were found between them and the Kachin Independence Army or any other underground outfits.

According to the SP, they were jointly interrogated by the local police, Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Special Branch (SB).

Amo, however, said a locally made 5.56 rifle, a locally made 7.62 mm long barrel arm, 26 live ammunition, six empty cartridges, and currencies from China and India were seized from the trio.

A case under the Foreigners Act, the Passport (Entry into India) Act and the Arms Act, has been filed against the trio, the SP said.

This arrest underscores the complex dynamics at play in border areas, where livelihoods and security concerns intersect, often in unexpected ways.
