Itanagar: Agartala, the capital city of Tripura will host the first edition of North East Football League (NEFL) U-21 in October next.
The assurance to host the tournament was given by Tripura chief minister Biplap Kumar Deb to the members of North East Football Development Council (NEDFC) who called on the former at the civil secretariat here on Wednesday.
NEDFC general secretary Kipa Ajay, who led the delegation, said the league would witness all the eight member state football associations of the council participate in it. Also Read: Arunachal enters quarter-finals of Hero Jr Women’s NFC
“The NEDFC will provide the required technical assistance to the Tripura government to conduct the said championship. Organizing the NEFL is a step forward towards our goal of augmenting the development of football in the north east and we are grateful to the Tripura government for supporting us,” Ajay said.
Ajay, who is also the secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) said various other issues related to the development of football and its related infrastructure in the northeast were discussed during the meeting which was also attended by Tripura’ sports minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
The NEDFC was formed in 2020 by all the eight state football associations of the northeast to undertake collective efforts for the development of the game in the region.
The council also plans to coordinate with the state governments of all the northeastern states to chalk out a road map to develop the beautiful game and provide every possible facility to football players and state football associations for their structural growth.
The NEDFC is headed by Meghalaya Football Association president Larshing Sawyan and Ajay as its founding president and general secretary respectively.
