Pasighat: In a significant ruling, the District and Sessions Court here has found Brinar Pait, a retired sub-inspector of the Arunachal Pradesh Police, guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault against his domestic help.
Pait has been sentenced to a three-year prison term in accordance with Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, officials said.
The distressing case unraveled a disturbing pattern of abuse dating back to 2012, wherein Pait subjected the victim-survivor to molestation and sexual assault.
The victim-survivor, who had been living with Pait since childhood due to the tragic loss of her parents, was employed as domestic help in his household.
Throughout this ordeal, Pait resorted to threats and intimidation, even going so far as brandishing a pistol on one occasion, in a bid to silence the victim-survivor and prevent her from disclosing the incidents to his wife or others.
Despite facing these daunting challenges, the victim-survivor displayed remarkable courage by making several attempts to extricate herself from her abuser. The gravity of the situation came to light on June 29, 2022, when the victim-survivor, overwhelmed by frustration and despair, managed to escape from Pait’s residence.
Subsequently, on June 30, 2022, law enforcement authorities located her, leading to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) and the commencement of legal proceedings against the perpetrator, officials added.
