Arunachal:Mein seeks early start for two railway projects

New Delhi: Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein on Monday requested Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw to expedite the Murkongselek to Pasighat railway project in the state.

Mein, who called on the union minister at the Rail Bhawan here, informed that the land acquisition process for the railway line would be resolved soon so as to ensure the early start of the project.

The 217-km-long strategic railway line of Murkongselek to Pasighat that will go on to Tezu-Rupai-Lekhapani connecting Marherita and Deomali will revolutionize the communication network in eastern Arunachal Pradesh and will also facilitate movement of defense forces to the border areas, Mein said.

The DMC also requested the union minister to commence the Rupai to Parshuramkund railway line simultaneously.

“There is already a railway line up till Rupai in Assam. Also the holy pilgrimage site at Parshuramkund in Lohit district is visited by pilgrims in large numbers every year. The railway project once completed will enhance the tourist inflow to the holy place besides facilitating the pilgrims’ journey,” he said.

Mein said that the final location survey of the Rupai to Parshuramkund railway line has already been completed.

The Union Minister on his part assured to personally take up the matter of obtaining the ‘no objection certificates’ for the railway projects with the defense ministry.
