Itanagar: The Capital police on Monday presented roses to motorists driving their two-wheelers without helmets instead of issuing challans.
The initiative, supported by the members of Miss Capital-2022 organizing committee, was a part of the ongoing traffic safety awareness programme, the police said.
Several red roses were distributed among the motorists on the occasion while awareness on road safety was also imparted.
Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) superintendent of police Jimmy Chiram said usually the traffic police organize such programmes every year, but this time the team from Miss Capital was also invited to be a part of it.
The SP said the police while carrying out the initiative further would be distributing free helmets on Tuesday.
“This is a road safety awareness campaign is our bid to enlighten the people on ways to become more mindful of road safety while driving their vehicles. Our message to the people is simple, follow traffic rules and keep the road safe for yourselves and others,” Chiram said.
The SP said the month-long traffic awareness has yielded positive results in the ICR as most of the people are now following traffic rules, thereby decreasing the numbers of challan.
With regards to the insufficient parking spaces in Itanagar and Naharlagun, the SP, while acknowledging the same, said that the public have so far been enormously cooperative and hope that the same would continue in the days to come.
Chiram also said the district administration is aware of the growing traffic congestion due to lack of parking spaces and would accordingly be implementing a few ideas to solve the issue soon.
