APWWS urges CM to support Monogamy Election Eligibility Bill

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has appealed to the state government for its backing in introducing the Arunachal Pradesh Monogamy Election Eligibility Bill, 2023.

In a representation to chief minister Pema Khandu, the APWWS has urged support for the bill’s introduction during the ongoing monsoon session, which commenced on September 4.

The Private Members Bill, slated for introduction by Congress MLA Ninong Ering on September 6, holds significant implications for Arunachal Pradesh’s democratic landscape.

The Arunachal Pradesh Monogamy Election Eligibility Bill, 2023, aims to address a fundamental issue within the state’s electoral system by establishing monogamy as a prerequisite for election eligibility, APWWS president Kani Nada Maling said in the representation.

Maling emphasized the necessity of this legislation to ensure an equitable and just electoral process within the state.

She underscored the primary objectives of the bill, including the promotion of gender equality, the preservation of family values, the reinforcement of political accountability, and the prevention of discrimination.

“We firmly believe that the introduction and passage of the Arunachal Pradesh Monogamy Election Eligibility Bill 2023 will mark a significant stride in bolstering our democracy and upholding our state’s core values,” Maling said.

The APWWS earnestly appeals for your support in advancing the bill during the monsoon session. Your endorsement in this matter would not only signify your dedication to the state’s welfare but also affirm your commitment to the principles of fairness, equality, and accountability within our democratic system, the representation added.
