Itanagar: Rakhe Agam and Rinu Riba, two female motorcyclists from Arunachal Pradesh, recently rode across the northern and western parts of the country enlightening people against racism and carrying the message of unity as well as women and youth empowerment.
The duo, members of Arunachal Bullet Club, also promoted Arunachal Pradesh tourism on their two-wheelers.
The states they toured included Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. They also covered the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
During their 33-day-long drive, the bikers stopped at roadside villages, schools, etc., to convey the goodwill message of Arunachal Pradesh in particular and the Northeast in general.
“We also tried to generate awareness against racism and underlined the importance of unity and empowerment of women and youth,” Yagam said, adding they promoted tourism in their home state alongside.
We also shared with the people the culture, cuisine and other aspects of our state and that of the northeast, she added.
On Friday, Agam and Riba called on Governor B D Mishra at the Raj Bhavan here and narrated their experiences of completing a 7,000-km bike tour from October 18 to November 22.
Sharing their experience with the Governor, they said the mainland Indians, especially those living in rural areas, have very little knowledge about the people of the Northeast.
“In certain places people were asked whether we were Japanese or Chinese,” they said.
The governor and his better half lauded the courageous adventure spirit and zeal of the young girls and congratulated them on their successful accomplishment of the long and difficult ride through the heartlands of the country.
Mishra also praised them for spreading the goodwill message from the people of Arunachal Pradesh to the people along their journey.
Both Agam and Riba have also expressed their gratitude to Arunachal sports and youth affairs minister Mama Natung and a few other well wishers for their support.
