Itanagar: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday said that Arunachal Pradesh is gradually turning into one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the globe, thanks to its rich bio-biodiversity.
“Arunachal has all the required potential to become a major tourist hotspot, especially in the adventure tourism sector and the state government is giving all efforts to boost the same,” Mein said.
The deputy chief minister who flagged off the second edition of Trans Arunachal Drive from the Pangsau Pass in Changlang district on the day said that the state government has enhanced the fund allocation under the Chief Minister Paryatan Yojana (CMPVY) from Rs 4 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 8 crore in 2022-23 in a bid to promote tourism.
CMPVY is a value-added subsidy scheme through which funds are granted by the state government for opening homestays, restaurants, bakery, food courts and adventure sports.
Mein said the government is promoting homestays across the state under the scheme so as to provide affordable and comfortable accommodation for the tourists.
The visiting tourists can also experience the local culture and cuisine whilst their stay at these homestays, he said.
The deputy chief minister further announced that the famous pilgrimage site Parshuram Kund in Lohit district is being developed into a major tourist destination while the 7 lakes trek in Dibang Valley district and the trekking trail towards Glaw Lake in Lohit both have the potential of becoming one of the top tourist destinations for adventure lovers.
Mein expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister for road, transport and highways Nitin Gadkari for giving special impetus to the infrastructural development of the northeastern region, especially in rail, road and air connectivity which is directly related to tourism.
With regards to the memorandum submitted by the villagers on re-opening the Indo-Myanmar market through Pangsau Pass, Mein assured to take up the matter at the highest level.
Extending his best wishes to the teams participating in the Trans Arunachal Drive, the deputy chief minister hoped the beauty of Arunachal will reach far and wide across the globe through their endorsement.
Organized by the state’s department of tourism as a part of the Dekho Apna Desh campaign, the Trans Arunachal Drive aims to put on display the tourist attractions, destinations and biodiversity of Arunachal besides promoting adventure tourism.
During the 12-day long road trip the participants would traverse through several unexplored and off beat parts of the state covering a distance of more than 2000 kms.
Among others, state legislative assembly speaker P D Sona, Nampong MLA and advisor to tourism minister Laisam Simai, tourism secretary Sadhana Deori, 25 Sector Assam Rifles Brigadier Swarn Singh were present on the occasion.
