RGU top among Northeastern Central universities

Itanagar: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), the lone central varsity in Arunachal Pradesh, has secured the 13th position among Indian Central Universities in the latest Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF), leading in the Northeast region.

Mizoram University followed at 15th place, with Tezpur University and NEHU, Shillong ranking 16th and 18th respectively out of 50 central universities assessed.

Accredited recently with an “A” grade by NAAC, RGU achieved an overall index score of 972.24 in the IIRF evaluation, reaffirming its academic prowess.

The evaluation by IIRF, a significant non-governmental organization, considers parameters such as academic reputation, employer perception, teaching-learning resources, research, and graduation outcomes.

RGU vice-chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha lauded the university community for the achievement, emphasizing RGU’s dedication to academic excellence and competitiveness on the national stage.

He expressed confidence in RGU’s potential to feature prominently in international rankings like the QS World University Rankings, highlighting the university’s focus on employability and sustainability.

University registrar Dr N T Rikam hailed the ranking as a milestone achieved through persistent efforts across the university community.

He underscored RGU’s commitment to enhancing the teaching and research environment, ensuring high-quality education and impactful research.

Joint Registrar and member of RGU’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Dr David Pertin acknowledged challenges related to regional restrictions on admitting foreign students but noted RGU’s steadfast efforts yielding positive outcomes.

He expressed optimism about RGU’s continuous improvement aligned with the transformative features of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.

RGU’s rise in the IIRF rankings solidifies its standing as a premier institution in Northeast India, setting benchmarks for academic excellence and research-driven education.

RGU, formerly known as Arunachal University, stands as the foremost institution of higher learning in Arunachal Pradesh, marking twenty-five years since its establishment.

Founded on February 4, 1984 at Rono Hills, Doimukh where its current campus resides, the university received academic recognition under section 2(f) from the University Grants Commission on March 28, 1985.

It commenced operations from April 01, 1985 and obtained financial recognition under section 12-B of the UGC on March 25, 1994.
