Naharlagun: Tami Bage, a distinguished social activist and one of the founding members of Nirjuli town, passed away on Friday after an extended illness at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) here. He was 84 years old.
A highly regarded figure, Late Bage made significant contributions to both society and the government, leaving an enduring impact on the community. His dedicated efforts were widely recognized, and as a tribute to his legacy, the Nirjuli-Doimukh tri-junction was officially named ‘Bage Tinali.’
The inception of the present-day Bage Tinali can be traced back to 1977 when Bage established one of the earliest fair price shops in the area. Over the years, the region gained prominence through various developmental activities, particularly its connection to Doimukh via the Itanagar-Harmuti road.
Among his noteworthy accomplishments, Bage generously donated land for the establishment of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) and the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, and Dairy Development under the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
In addition to his philanthropic endeavors, Bage played a pivotal role in rallying public support for government initiatives. His influence was instrumental in the successful construction of the present state capital road and the establishment of the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).
