Raj Bhavan’s promise: A brighter future for Donyi Polo Mission students

Itanagar: Governor KT Parnaik on Sunday made a commitment to assist and champion the dreams and goals of the students of Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired.

Parnaik, who along with First Lady Anagha Parnaik, participated in the 34th foundation day celebration of the school at Chimpu near here, expressed his admiration for the students and emphasized that “with proper guidance and nurturing they possess great potential and can excel alongside their peers.”

The governor encouraged the students to work diligently and strive for success, assuring them that Raj Bhavan would take proactive measures to provide them with broader exposure and life experiences, enabling them to become proud citizens of the nation.

As a symbol of his commitment, Parnaik announced the provision of essential furniture, including study tables and chairs, to benefit the students.

The governor on the occasion also extended his commendation to former chief minister Gegong Apang and Donyi Polo Mission for their outstanding service to humanity, which he regarded as unparalleled. He expressed his gratitude to all those associated with the school for their noble efforts.

During the ceremony, the governor presented awards for academic excellence to Bengia Rajput, Biri Aja (Class IX), Jyoti Kumari (Class V) and Susanth Boro (Class I).

Awards for excellence in vocational training were also conferred upon Challick Wangsu (Weaving) and Hobi Yal (Tailoring).

Recognizing achievements in extracurricular activities, the governor presented awards to Angel Diven (Dancing), Jhon Tachang (Music), Mebo Medo (Singing), Lindum Tana, Khoda Yana (Social Service), Jame Tawe, Viki Rachael (Games & Sports) and Ome Minam Tamut (Painting).

Furthermore, the governor paid tribute to M Mishra, the daughter of the late Prem Kumar Mishra, the founder principal of the institute, for her father’s dedicated service from October 15, 1990 to October 1, 2006.

Gegong Apang also addressed the gathering while school principal, H Sharma, provided insights into the institution and its achievements.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including principal secretary (finance), Dr Sharat Chauhan, former MLA Nima Tsering, Donyi Polo Mission vice-chairman, Dr Okeng Apang, as well as special guests, invitees, teachers, instructors, tutors, alumni of the school and students.

As a highlight of the celebration, the students of the institute presented a cultural programme, featuring patriotic songs, dances, and a pantomime.

During their inaugural visit to the institution, the governor and first lady interacted with both hearing and visually impaired students, engaging with alumni as well.

They had the opportunity to witness the special activities conducted by the students, including the products of the Waste Paper Recycling Vocational Unit, which is a part of their vocational training programme.

It’s worth noting that the school currently accommodates 124 students, including 24 who are visually impaired.
