Police seize Rs 59.02 lakh in cash during naka checking

Ziro: A significant cash amount of Rs 59.02 lakh was seized by the Ziro police team during a random naka checking at the Pine Grove area near here on Thursday evening.

The cash was confiscated from one Boa Terry, a resident of Boa Simla in Kamle district. The vehicle carrying the seized amount was reportedly enroute from Ziro to Kamle district.

During the random naka checking at Pine Grove, which serves as the last gateway to the neighboring districts of Kamle and Upper Subansiri, the police team stopped a Scorpio vehicle heading to Kamle. Upon searching the vehicle, the cash was found stashed in a grey-colored journey bag.

All legal formalities were duly followed during the seizure process in the presence of the executive magistrate.

The case is being investigated by the income tax department as the cash was seized after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force, officials said.

Arunachal will vote for its two Lok Sabha seats and the 60-member assembly on April 19.
