Itanagar: Union Minister for Tourism and Development of North Eastern States (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the development of Parashuram Kund, a holy pilgrimage site in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district.
The project was sanctioned under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive’ (PRASHAD) scheme of the Ministry of Tourism at a cost of Rs 37.88 crore in January 2021.
PRASHAD, a Central Sector Scheme was launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Ministry of Tourism in the year 2014-15 with the vision of focused infrastructure development to harness pilgrimage and heritage tourism destinations for its direct and multiplier effect upon employment generation and economic development.
The components sanctioned under the scheme include interventions near the parking area, tourist information centre, rain shelters, kiosks, interventions near the mela ground, view points, souvenir shops, pilgrim waiting hall, viewing gallery, slope stabilization, etc.
The day also saw Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat dedicate three water projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to the people of the state.
The projects include integrated water supply project for Chongkham in Namsai district and enroute habitations, saturation of Chongkham Block and 303 completed schemes under the JJM across Arunachal.
Among others, chief minister Pema Khandu, deputy chief minister Chowna Mein and tourism minister Nakap Nalo attended both the events. (With inputs from PIB)
