Itanagar: A special court in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district designated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) on Friday sentenced a man to 07 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing his minor cousin.
The district and sessions court at Bomdila convicted one Nishu Jebisow (30), a native of Buragaon village under Section 04 of the POCSO Act for ‘penetrative sexual assault’ on the 10-year-old.
The incident took place on May 17, 2020 when the victim along with her mother had gone to the market after which the girl had gone missing. She was later found coming out from the house of Nishu Jebisow in a crying state with her underclothing stuffed in her vest.
The victim had later informed her parents that Jebisow had sexually molested her.
An FIR was accordingly lodged by the victim’s mother the next day at the Thrizino police station and a case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 04 of the POCSO Act was registered against the accused.
Interestingly, Jebisow had also tried to escape from the court after hearing the conviction order but was later apprehended by the police from the market area.
