Itanagar: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, highlighting the severe challenges faced by residents, officials, and students in Kurung Kumey district following devastating floods.
The floods, which destroyed the Kurung bridge and severely damaged key roads, have left Koloriang, the district’s headquarters and other places like Sangram and Nyobia isolated and in desperate need of assistance.
NES president Prof Tana Showren in the memorandum submitted emphasized the crucial necessity to repair the Parsi Parlo to Koloriang road promptly.
This route is essential for transporting crucial supplies and medicines to the region, now hindered by deteriorating road conditions exacerbated by ongoing rains.
Highlighting the significance of the Kurung Bridge, which was destroyed save for its abutment, the memorandum stressed the immediate requirement for funding to rebuild this lifeline bridge. Restoration efforts are pivotal to reconnecting Koloriang and its vicinity to essential services and supplies, the NES said.
With road networks severely disrupted, the NES proposed the temporary deployment of helicopter services to deliver emergency aid, including medicines and food, to areas inaccessible by road.
Prof Showren has further urged the chief minister to expedite the allocation of emergency relief funds to provide swift assistance to residents grappling with the aftermath of the floods.
Meanwhile, Kurung Kumey deputy commissioner Vishakha Yadav has provided an update on the ongoing restoration efforts and relief distribution in the flood-affected areas of the district.
The district administration, under the leadership of circle officer Shankar Bagang, has undertaken commendable efforts to restore connectivity to cut-off towns such as Sarli, Parsi Parlo, and others.
These areas were severely impacted by recent floods, causing disruptions in essential services and communication lines.
“At 12:30 am today, the district administration reached Taba village in Panyasang circle where essential items were distributed to villagers, with instructions for further collection by Panchayat members due to challenging road conditions,” the DC informed.
The roads leading to Damin town remain in critical condition, with approximately 17 block points hindering access, allowing only 4×4 vehicles to reach certain circles near the Indo-China border.
“Over the past week, the district administration has worked tirelessly to clear blockages, restore surface communication and ensure the supply of essential commodities to affected communities,” Yadav said.
