Itanagar: The anti-drug squad (ADS) of the Kurung Kumey police has registered a case against one Podme Tayeng, a sub-inspector of the Koloriang police station, after 8 grams (approx) of suspected heroin was recovered from his possession.

According to Kurung Kumey superintendent of police Bomken Basar, sub-inspector Tayeng (52) was arrested by the ADS on Wednesday.

“Tayeng was arrested on February 01 evening following an input received from a source. He was caught with a packet of suspected heroin (around 8 grams) while travelling from Itanagar to Koloriang,” the SP said.

Basar said, on receiving the input, the ADS along with a magistrate intercepted the vehicle Tayeng was travelling in and carried out a body search after which they found a packet of soap where the drug was concealed.

We later also came to know that he (Tayeng) is a drug addict himself, the SP said, while adding that a case under sections 21(b)/21(a)/21-A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against the sub-inspector at the Koloriang police station.

We have followed all the required legal procedures and the accused will be being presented before the court soon, Basar added.

Tayeng is a native of Namsai district and had eight more years until his retirement.
