Heroin worth Rs 5 lakh seized in West Siang, two arrested

Aalo: The police in West Siang district have arrested two drug peddlers and seized around 10.54 grams of suspected heroin from their possession.

On September 17, information was received from a reliable source that two persons were transporting contraband substances from Likabali to Aalo, West Siang superintendent of police Abhimanyu Poswal said.

He said a police team was constituted with Aalo police station officer in-charge Duto Bagra leading the team.

The police team set up a temporary naka at Darka Bridge near Darka village.

The team intercepted the vehicle at 10.15 pm and apprehended peddlers- Mikjum Ete and Raju Vishkarma, he said.

The two and the vehicle were thoroughly searched in presence of executive magistrate Maryom Karlo and Paktu Ao Youth Welfare Association members, and a soap case packed in a polythene containing suspected heroin was recovered from their possession, Poswal said.

Ete and Vishkarma were arrested and the suspected contraband substance, two mobile handsets and the vehicle were seized.

The SP said a case under Section 21 (b)/27 (a) of the NDPS Act has been registered at Aalo police station.

“The accused have been arrested and remanded to police custody,” the SP added.
