Heroin worth Rs 17 lakh seized in Namsai, 2 arrested

Namsai: The Namsai Police has executed one of the most successful drug and contraband substance recovery operations in the district, conducting a targeted raid on the residence of notorious drug peddlers, resulting in a significant seizure.

Based on credible information received on July 29 at around 11.30 pm, a highly coordinated operation was launched under the leadership of SDPO Namsai Chera Sawan and the close supervision of SP Namsai.

The team, comprising personnel from Namsai Police Station, inspector O Gao, Mahadevpur police station officer-in-charge inspector A K Pandey and personnel from ‘A’ coy CRPF Namsai, conducted the raid at the house of suspects Bhaskar Gogoi (32) and Putulon Gogoi (28) in Bogamur Pahargaon village, the police said.

During an intensive search, 49 soap cases were discovered, containing approximately 499.15 grams of suspected heroin, valued at an astounding Rs 17,15,000 (Seventeen lakh Fifteen Thousand rupees) in the illicit market.

Additionally, authorities seized Rs 30,500 in cash, suspected to be the proceeds from the illegal drug trade.

According the police, the arrested individuals have been involved in significant inter-state drug smuggling, making this operation a crucial breakthrough in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking.

A case (NMS PS C/No. 42/23 U/S 21(C) NDPS ACT) has been registered by the Namsai Police in connection with the incident, and they are actively following leads to dismantle the drug network.
