Itanagar: Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Tame Phassang on Wednesday said the Smart City body shall exit after all the components of the project, many of them underway, are accomplished.
“This could lead to complications with no department or agency owning responsibility,” he said during a meeting of the IMC attended by the corporators of various wards, IMC additional commissioner and local MLA Techi Kaso.
The house discussed the issues related to the Itanagar Smart City Project undertaken in the urban areas of Itanagar Capital Region falling within the jurisdiction of the IMC.
The components undertaken by the Smart City agency are unequivocally related to IMC, the mayor said.
He told the house that he has written to Chief Minister Pema Khandu detailing the Smart City projects.
“After the Smart City body exits following the completion of the projects, all functionaries shall be repatriated to their parent departments,” he said.
In such a scenario, no department or agency shall be responsible for owning and implementing the repair and maintenance works over the years, which could become a huge public liability, he said.
He appealed to the chief minister to hand over the Smart City projects to the IMC to delve into the needed projects in urban areas and rule out the duplicity of components in the larger interest of the public.
