Tezu: Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein on Tuesday called upon the youths of the state to grab the opportunities provided to them by the government in the tourism sector.
“There is a huge scope for the youths in the tourism sector, especially in eastern Arunachal. The people, especially the youth should avail the benefits of government schemes and policies under the tourism, agriculture and allied sectors. You can start by opening homestays,” Mein said.
The deputy CM was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the circuit house annexe building here.
He also inaugurated the divisional forest officer’s office, the new building of urban development and housing department and the administrative building of Indira Gandhi Government College.
Mein said the state government is committed to improve the tourism infrastructure of Arunachal and all the development projects are carried out for the betterment of the people.
“Parshuram Kund is an important pilgrimage site and largely visited by tourists during the Makar Sankranti festival. Hence, no stone will be left unturned to improve the tourism infrastructure at Parshuram Kund to attract more tourists,” he said.
Mein on the occasion also spoke of the recent panel discussion on ‘Welfare of Tribals and Development of Border Areas’ which was organised at the North East Festival as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
He said the Arunachal government has taken up three villages in the Indo-Tibet-China border areas to be developed as model villages.
The pilot initiative, he said, was for integrated development of border villages in the state.
Mein also called for acceptance of modernity while adhering to one’s traditions and added that the government is taking all possible initiatives to document the rich cultural heritage and promote tribal languages and scripts of the state.
“Our tribal culture is very closely linked to our identity and we will continue to make efforts towards its preservation,” he said.
Mein who was on a daylong visit to Tezu was earlier welcomed by local legislator Karikho Kri and officials of the Lohit district administration.
