CM Pema Khandu unveils Arunachal’s newest gem: Keyi Panyor district!

Yachuli: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu fulfilled his promise made in September 2023 by inaugurating the state’s 26th district, Keyi Panyor, here on Friday.

The new district, carved out of Lower Subansiri, will have its headquarters at Ter Gapin – Sam Sarth area near here.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Khandu congratulated the people, especially those of the Yachuli Assembly Constituency, stating that their long-cherished aspirations have finally been realized. He expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the residents of the newly created district and urged them to join hands in making Keyi Panyor a beacon of development.

Khandu emphasized the importance of a ‘corruption-free’ journey for the new district, acknowledging the area’s historical significance and its unfortunate association with electoral malpractices.

He urged religious and community leaders to campaign against the ‘cash for vote’ practice, particularly with the upcoming parliamentary and assembly elections.

Highlighting the district’s potential in agriculture and horticulture, Khandu encouraged the local community to focus on these sectors, assuring them of the state government’s full support.

He also discouraged the practice of submitting memorandums during such occasions, stressing that the government’s responsibility is to anticipate and fulfill the needs of the people without waiting for demands.

To mark the occasion, the chief minister presented the new district flag to the incumbent deputy commissioner and superintendent of police.

Union Minister for Earth Science Kiren Rijiju, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, MPs Tapir Gao and Nabam Rebia, along with several cabinet colleagues and local representatives, were also present at the event.

The State Assembly had previously passed the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-organization of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2024, on February 8, paving the way for the creation of two new districts, Keyi Panyor and Bichom.

The inauguration of the 27th district, Bichom, is scheduled for early next week.
