Itanagar: Chief Minister, Pema Khandu, on Monday formally inaugurated the St Vairotsana Academy in the scenic Chug Valley of Dirang, West Kameng district, extending this educational institution to the people of the state.
Established in 2016, St Vairotsana Academy is a residential school designed to provide education to underprivileged students, generously funded by philanthropists, with significant contributions coming from Vietnam and Malaysia.
During the ceremony, Khandu expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the citizens of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly those from West Kameng and Tawang districts, to Kyabje Ugyen Choephel Rinpoche and the attending donors, acknowledging their invaluable gift to the community.
Khandu emphasized the noble character of establishing a school aimed at providing top-tier education to the less fortunate, viewing it as an act of great virtue and philanthropy. He commended His Eminence Kyabje Ugyen Choephel Rinpoche for selecting Chug Valley as the institution’s location, even though he is not a native of Arunachal.
Highlighting the significance of preserving traditional values alongside modern education, Khandu underscored the school’s commitment to imparting contemporary knowledge as well as the customary and religious heritage of the Mon region to its students.
He stressed the crucial role of early childhood education, recognizing the pre-primary stage as the foundation of a child’s educational journey.
Furthermore, Khandu called upon all members of society to actively support the school’s administration and school management committees, particularly those associated with government schools, to maintain discipline and uphold educational standards.
In response to a request for government financial support, Khandu assured the swift provision of a corpus fund for the school and pledged further government assistance to address any additional requirements of the institution.
He emphasized that while constructing physical infrastructure is relatively straightforward, the true challenge lies in effectively utilizing these facilities for the benefit of students. Khandu expressed confidence in the school’s principal and faculty members, expecting them to meet the community’s expectations.
In addition to the dedication ceremony, the chief minister inaugurated a new hostel building with a capacity for 150 students at the academy.
The event was attended by local legislator Phurpa Tsering, Kalaktang MLA Dorjee Wangdi Kharma, district administration officials, representatives from ITBP and SSB, as well as Buddhist monks from various states and countries.
