Itanagar: Boxers Guruk Pordung, Taw Pakba and Fenia Paffa have advanced to the semi-finals of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2023 after winning their respective bouts on Thursday, assuring three medals for Arunachal Pradesh.
Contesting in the featherweight category, Pordung entered the semi-final by registering a resounding 5-0 win over Munagapati Purvik of Telangana while light welterweight boxer Pakba also got the better of his opponent Mohammed Hamza Abdul Khal of Telangana as the referee had to stop the contest (RSC) in the second round.
A referee stops a contest to save a boxer from a knockout when he is being outclassed, cannot protect himself, or is otherwise unfit to continue the bout. This results in a technical knockout win for the boxer’s opponent.
Pordung will be up against Badal of Himachal Pradesh in the semis while Pakba will face Preet Malik of Haryana.
Meanwhile, Fenia Paffa too registered an easy win over his opponent Ved Prakash of Jharkhand after the referee stopped the contest in the second round.
He will be facing Harsh of Haryana in the semi final.
All the matches will be played at the DSYW Hall of TT Nagar Sports Complex, Bhopal on Friday.
