Itanagar: The border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh took an ugly turn in Lower Siang district on Wednesday after some locals from Assam allegedly torched down an under construction culvert at Hime Village.
The Hime village falls under the Kangku circle of Lower Siang district.
Sources from the district told NewsFy that there were also some physical altercation between the locals of Arunachal and Assam while some shots were also fired in the air by unknown individuals.
No casualty was, however, reported.
The development comes a day after the Assam Police allegedly stopped an ongoing Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) construction work at the same village.
Hime gram panchayat chairperson (GPC), Kage Nada told NewsFy tha the incident occurred at around 1 pm on Wednesday.
He said that information has been shared by the locals to Arunachal police.
Lower Siang superintendent of police Kushal Pal Singh said he has deputed a team to enquire the incident and a report on the same is awaited.
The development comes two days after Chief Minister Pema Khandu met his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma and held discussions on the boundary issue between the two states.
Khandu later in a tweet said that the two governments would “sincerely work towards a permanent solution on this long pending issue.”
This is a developing story.
