BJP’s Kra-Daadi district unit expels MLA Balo Raja for ‘neglecting’ party duties

Itanagar: In an interesting turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Kra-Daadi district unit has expelled Balo Raja, the MLA of 18-Palin Assembly Constituency, from the party’s primary membership for a period of six years, effective immediately.

The decision was announced by Kra-Daadi district BJP president Nguri Kyokam during a media briefing at the Press Club here on Wednesday.

Kyokam said the decision was taken following due consultation with the district disciplinary committee of the Kra-Daadi unit.

Kyokam stated that Raja’s expulsion was a consequence of his lackadaisical attitude towards the BJP and his failure to attend all district-level executive meetings and events. “Despite repeated attempts to engage him in discussions to strengthen the party in the district, Raja consistently declined to participate and remained absent from these crucial gatherings,” Kyokam alleged.

The expulsion was carried out citing violations of Article XXV and breaches of Disciplinary clauses (a), (c), and (f) of the BJP’s constitution.

Consequently, Raja is barred from seeking a party ticket from the state BJP for the upcoming assembly election in 2024.

Kyokam, who had previously been served with an expulsion order by the state BJP unit, disclosed that he had challenged the order in court and obtained a stay order until March 9. He revealed that the court has since overturned his expulsion and a final verdict will be issued shortly.

The BJP leader also alleged that his own expulsion was unjustified, as it was based on his alleged inability to perform the duties of his position.

He further accused state BJP president, Biyuram Waghe of being influenced by MLA Raja in issuing the expulsion order against him.

Though legislator Raja could not be contacted for his comments on the matter, a senior state BJP leader said that Kyokam himself is expelled from the party for 6 years and his expelling of the MLA makes no point and can be considered “of no effect”.
