Itanagar: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday clarified that the expulsion of incumbent Palin MLA Balo Raja from the party’s primary membership by Nguri Kyokam, the party’s state executive member from Kra-Daadi district, was “biased and made without consent” from the party’s high command.
BJP state spokesperson Techi Necha clarified the party’s stand, stating that Kyokam had himself been expelled from the party for six years for breaching discipline and noncompliance with party orders.
Necha emphasized that Kyokam’s announcement of expelling an MLA was illegal and unconstitutional.
Necha explained that the state BJP office had received multiple written complaints against Kyokam from grassroots karyakartas, ZPMs, and his office bearers. The complaints alleged inactivity and anti-incumbency activities against MLA Raja, who represents the 18-Palin Assembly Constituency.
“After issuing a show-cause notice on February 17 for dishonoring and defying state office orders, Kyokam’s response on February 24 was deemed unjustified and unsatisfactory. Consequently, he was expelled from the party for six years,” Necha said.
Necha highlighted that there is a system followed by the BJP for expelling or inducting members and Kyokam’s actions did not adhere to this process.
“Moreover, a district or mandal president has no authority to expel a sitting MLA,” he added.
Necha further mentioned that Kyokam later approached the court and obtained a stay from the Ziro Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) over his expulsion by allegedly “misleading the court.”
“The state BJP strongly condemns Kyokam’s activities and his attempts to mislead the people of Palin. Until the court gives its final judgment, any activities or orders by Kyokam will be considered biased and unconstitutional by the party,” Necha stated.
Kyokam had expelled MLA Raja for a period of six years, alleging neglect of party duties. He had made the announcement during a news briefing at the Press Club in Itanagar on Wednesday while citing Raja’s “lackadaisical attitude towards the BJP and his failure to attend all district-level executive meetings and events.”
