Assam youth body honors Dy CM Mein with Bengmora Samanway Award

Tinsukia: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein, was on Saturday honored with the prestigious Bengmora Samanway Award 2023 by the All Assam Matak Yuva-Chatra Sanmilan (AAMYCS) at its 83rd Central Foundation Day event held in Dirak, Kakopothar here.

The award recognizes Mein’s exceptional contributions to fostering brotherhood, cultural harmony, and preserving indigenous heritage between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

In his acceptance speech, Mein expressed profound gratitude for the esteemed award, viewing it as a testament to the people’s love and appreciation for his work.

A member of the Tai Khamti clan, Mein highlighted the enduring friendship between the Khamtis and the Matak community, rooted in ancient times.

He also underscored the historical and cultural ties between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, where Arunachalee residents, including those of the Khamti clan, have been exposed to Assamese language and culture.

Mein noted the presence of over 100 Namghars in Arunachal Pradesh, where cultural activities such as Bhaonas and Ras are maintained by the Assamese diaspora.

Deputy Chief Minister Mein emphasized the long-standing historical connection between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, dating back to a time preceding India’s independence.

He recounted the valiant deeds of Chaupha Planglu, known as Ranua Gohain, in the Anglo-Khamti War of 1839, underscoring that these crucial historical episodes had been overlooked for too long.

He praised the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for its efforts to identify and document these stories as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative.

Mein also discussed the importance of preserving the unique cultures of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and acknowledged the contributions of cultural luminaries like Dr Bhupen Hazarika in fostering cultural exchange.

He encouraged the younger generation of Assam to engage in preserving their cultural heritage and champion the Digital India movement.

He noted Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on young India’s role in innovation and 6G applications during the inauguration of the Indian Mobile Congress on October 27.

Mein highlighted the potential of a digitally empowered nation in preserving and promoting culture through innovative means for future generations.

Among others, the event was attended by Assam Labour and Employment minister Sanjoy Kishan, Lahowal MLA Binod Hazarika, Motak Autonomous Council CEO David Chetia, All Assam Motak Yuba Chatra Sanmilan president, Ranjit Gohain, executive members of Tai Khamti Singpho Council, Tai Khamti Development Society, All Namsai Area Youth Association and members of Tai Khamti Heritage and Literary Society.
