Dy CM Mein joins Tibetan community to celebrate Dalai Lama’s 88th birthday

Tezu: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein joined the celebration of the 88th birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama at Dhargyelling Tibetan Settlement Tindolong here on Thursday.

Dignitaries and officials graced the event for prayers and extended their wishes to the global Buddhist spiritual leader. Mein was the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Mein said the14th Dalai Lama has been a source of inspiration, spreading teachings on compassion, peace, and unity.

He appreciated the Tibetan community that has been calling the place home since 1962 and commended them for zealously preserving their rich cultures and traditions even in difficult situations.

Mein also lauded the Tibetan community for living peacefully with the local communities and contributing to the economic development of the area through their hard work and entrepreneurship skills.

The deputy CM said that the Arunachal Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu is committed to the equitable development of all regions. He assured them of taking up the construction of the road to the Tibetan settlement area under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and the installation of high-mast lights up to the Tibetan camps in Tezu.

He further assured the camp dwellers to look into the renovation of the monastery Kitchen.

The festivities were graced by the Abbot of Lhagon Jangchup Choeling Monastery, I. Dzogchen Ganor Rinpoche, Tezu MLA Sunpura Karikho Kri, Hayuliang MLA Dasanglu Pul, Lohit district BJP President, Badam Tayang, Lohit DC Shashvat Saurabh and his Namsai counterpart CR Khampa, Lohit SP Mimjom Ete and his Namsai counterpart D W Thongon, Tibetan Settlement Officer Kunga Jigmey, PRI leaders of Tezu and Sunpura, government officers and camp leaders among others.

The celebration was marked by the presentation of colourful cultural dances by the Tibetan community.
