Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh athletes showcased their dominance at the National Muaythai Championship 2024, clinching a total of 18 medals, including eight golds, five silvers, and six bronzes.
The championship, organised by the United Muaythai Association of India (UMAI), was held in Guwahati, Assam, from May 25 to 30.
The UMAI is the authoritative body for regulating professional and amateur Muaythai, both in India and around the world.
The gold medal winners for Arunachal were Demkento Panggeng (50kg), Jubin Gogoi (40kg), Binjum Karlo (54kg), Diyo Rimo (63.5kg), Ajay Rebe Sono (81kg), Tada Cheri (56kg), Biro Cheri (53kg), and Gela Dadda (60kg).
In the silver category, MD Mustakim Sheikh (67kg), Sonia Jokhio (48kg), Yukam Tabri (47kg), Jeevan Thapa (55kg), and Tabia Beyong (54kg) stood out with their impressive performances.
The bronze medallists included Sourav Biswas (45kg), Lungsam Lamnio (52kg), Lote Jomoh (54kg), Lucky Tagang (42kg), Rashmi Rimo (47kg), and Namdu Effa (76kg).
The Arunachal contingent represented in the championship under the banner of Muaythai Association of Arunachal Pradesh (MAAP).
Expressing delight over the team’s performance, MAAP president Raj Joram said Team Arunachal’s successful outing at the National Muaythai Championship is expected to inspire more young athletes in the region to take up the sport.
Joram also congratulated team coach Kunal Nayak and manager-cum-MAAP general secretary Sunyi Tajo for the feat.
