Itanagar: Liromoba MLA and advisor to home minister Nyamar Karbak on Friday stressed on the importance of preserving one’s culture and identity for the future generations.
“The elders have a pivotal role to play in educating the youths about their culture, tradition and identity. Likewise, it is also the responsibility of our youths to carry forward the same as loss of culture is loss of identity,” Karbak said.
The legislature was addressing the Golden Jubilee Nyokum Yullo Festival at Kimin near here.
Karbak also said that the Kimin area has in the past few decades witnessed a series of development in various fronts and that is a good sign and encouragement for the public of the state.
Green Gold Integrated Farm (GGIF) chairman Likha Maj who also took part in the festival called upon the people, especially the youth, to take up agriculture and horticulture activities for income generation.
He announced to fund Rs 5 lakh from his personal expenses for the farmers of Kimin who want to utilize their land to cultivate cash crops.
Maj further asked the farmers to identify around 1000 hectares of land for which he assured to take responsibility and utilize the same to help the farmers become prosperous.
“The agri-allied sectors play a major role in the overall development of a society. The youths and progressive farmers should utilize the barren lands and cultivate cash crops. The state government is also encouraging and supporting the same,” he added.
Maj also said that Nyokum is a sacred celebration of the Nyishi community hence the sanctity of the festival should not be compromised or diluted.
Among others, IT and e-governance chairman Doni Nich, Toru ZPM Taba Rama and chairman of the festival organizing committee Bamang Mangha spoke on the day.
