Itanagar: Arunachalee boxers continue to shine and dominate the ring on Day 4 of the 5th Junior Boys National Championship as they managed to secure two bronze and a minimum of four silver medals for the state.
This achievement puts them on par with the boxing powerhouse Haryana and eight Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) boxers who have also stormed into the finals.
In their respective weight categories, Techi Jacky (46 kg), Gaykie Rie (52 kg), Nenthok Hodong (54 kg), and Tagio Liyak (57 kg) showcased contrasting victories to secure their spots in the summit clashes.
However, Loma Ring (50 kg) and Tara Sonia (60 kg) experienced heartbreak as they settled for bronze medals after enduring tough losses.
The action-packed day commenced with Jacky’s bout in the 46 kg pinweight category. Amidst enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, Jacky delivered a commanding performance, utilizing his agility and swift movements to unsettle his opponent, Telangana’s Md Abdul Wadi Omair.
With a resounding 5-0 unanimous decision, Jacky secured his place in the final where he will face Uttarakhand’s Brijesh Tamta, who defeated Gujarat’s Aniket Mallah by a similar margin.
In the 52 kg light bantamweight semi-final, Gaykie Rie faced tough competition from Haryana’s Dhruv. Despite not being in his best form, Rie managed to secure a 4-1 split decision verdict in his favor. His next challenge will be against Sahil Board of the Services, who emerged victorious with a 5-0 unanimous decision over Manipur’s Th Nilbir.
Competing in the 54kg bantamweight category Nenthok Hodong, fought an intense battle against Assam’s Abhinash Das. After a closely contested match, Hodong secured a 3-2 split decision win in the third and final round, fueled by the support of the cheering crowd.
Hodong will face Devang of the Services, who claimed a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Uttar Pradesh’s Sundry Yadav in the finals.
Furthermore, displaying dominance in the 57 kg featherweight category, Tagio Liyak secured a spot in the final with a commanding 5-0 win over Chandigarh’s Arman. Although Liyak acknowledged his opponent’s strength and ability to make contacts, his strong defense enabled a comfortable victory.
