Ziro: A district level awareness programme on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 was on Sunday organized at the Mudo Tamo Memorial College here for the students and administrators of various higher secondary schools of the Lower Subansiri district.
Earlier known as the Central Universities Common Entrance Test, the CUET is an all-India test being organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to various undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, diploma, certification courses and research programmes in 45 Central Universities of India.
The test is also accepted by several state and deemed universities of the country.
Addressing the programme, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) vice-chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha spoke on the importance and feasibility of CUET in India and termed it a holistic move by the ministry of education.
“Taking a common test for admissions in central universities is a good step,” he said.
Arunodaya University vice-chancellor Dr V N Sharma in his speech motivated the participants and encouraged them to be confident in facing the new national level entrance system while Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner Somcha Lowang spoke in brief on the importance of continuous learning as a student.
Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University vice-chancellor Dr Rajagopal Doddumpudi encouraged the students to take up unconventional courses which are relevant to the present age.
In the technical sessions that followed later, resource persons from RGU Prof S K Patnaik (dean, faculty of environmental sciences) and Dr David Pertin (joint registrar, academics and conferences) presented the aspects of CUET and cleared doubts pertaining to it.
Prof Patnaik, who is also the nodal officer for CUET-RGU centre, spoke in detail about CUET 2022, its features, opportunities, subject domains and the preparations of students for the subject of their choice.
He informed that CUET is a part of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aspires to provide uniform access and level playground to the growing number of talented and young citizens of the country.
“CUET has the potential to become a game-changer in the coming years not only for the students but for the participating universities as well,” he said and encouraged the students and other stakeholders to thoroughly understand its assessment pattern.
Dr Pertin while dwelling on the preparedness of RGU on CUET and two other entrance tests of university — RGUCET and RGUPET— informed that students can appear for the CUET 2022 only at their domicile states.
With the NTA keeping Class XII CBSE syllabus as the base for the CUET-2022, Dr Pertin opined that the students of Arunachal Pradesh will be in advantageous position as all the higher secondary schools in the state follow the NCERT CBSE syllabus.
He further informed that the CUET entrance examination for admissions to undergraduate programs in all 45 central universities including their constituent and affiliated colleges will be held online as Computer Based Test (CBT).
“The CUET-2022 will be conducted at more than 140 centers across the country and as of now Arunachal Pradesh has three test centers. The persuasion is with the nodal agency to increase the centers in the state keeping in view its bottlenecks and other issues,” the RGU joint registrar said.
Dr Pertin also briefed the students on the under graduate courses on offer at RGU and its 45 affiliated colleges.
He further elaborated on how CUET will relieve the students from having to take multiple admission tests from different universities or be able to take admission in any central university by giving just one test.
Earlier, RGU joint registrar (examinations) Dr Nani Tamang Jose, Mudo Tamo Memorial College chairperson Mudo Dumi and principal Dr Ramgopal Kushwaha also spoke on the occasion.
The awareness programme was coordinated by faculty members Hano Usha and Rubu Abing.
