Arunachal: Habitual drug peddler held with heroin

Itanagar: The Capital police on Thursday arrested a habitual drug peddler and recovered around 80.20 grams of heroin from his possession.

The arrested person has been identified as Suraj Das, a native of Rajgarh Village, Harmoti in Assam’s North Lakhimpur district.

Capital superintendent of police Jimmy Chiram said Das was arrested by a team led by Naharlagun deputy SP Dekio Gumja from the Banderdewa area where he had come to sell the banned drug.

Naharlagun police station officer-in-charge inspector Khiksi Yangfo, his Banderdewa counterpart inspector Minli Geyi, sub-inspector S S Jha, head constable Toko Abu and constables Lucky Tacho, Kanto Samyor, Sandeep Yadav, Lham Tashi, C Miling, Gaju Rai and lady constable Yani Sikom were also a part of the interception team.

A case under section 21(b)/27(a)/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 has been registered against Das at the Banderdewa police station.      

Das, a habitual offender, was also arrested in May 2021 under section 21(b) of NDPS Act (NLG PS Case No-73/21) and the case is presently pending trial, the SP said.
