Itanagar: Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra on Wednesday called upon the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) to extend more financial and technical support to Arunachal Pradesh to help the state utilize its full potential.
Taking part in the interactive session of the ‘North East Festival’ in Guwahati, Mishra said Arunachal has not been able to fully harness its potential due to the non-availability of financial assistance from external sources, like the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, etc.
The governor took up the issues of special dispersion and rugged terrain of Arunachal and sought review of the financial and technical support policy of DoNER to meet the requirements of the state.
Citing 13.06 percent of the total allocation to Arunachal, the governor also requested for the review of funds allocated to the state by the Ministry of DoNER.
He further asked for assistance in infrastructure upgradation of educational institutes like Ramakrishna Mission Schools and Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalayas, which he said have provided yeoman services by shaping thousands of lives in the state.
The governor in the interactive session also shared that the Arunachal government has organized several programmes in different parts of the state, sensitizing about the people on freedom struggle, valiant freedom fighters and contributions of the indigenous people in the war of Independence.
Mishra said that the eight north eastern states are now getting top priority for the developmental resources under the great leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
