Rono Hills: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra on Saturday lauded the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) for its achievements, especially for opening many new departments and developing infrastructure besides contributing immensely to the field of education.
Addressing the 40th Foundation Day function of the lone central university of the state here, Mishra also praised university vice-chancellor Saket Kushwaha for his contributions.
Emphasizing the need to have good education for the betterment of society as enshrined in the Constitution of India as a fundamental right, the governor called upon one and all to reassess, review, reform and retrospect themselves on the occasion of the foundation day and resolve to work on the modalities to take the premier institution forward in all spheres of life.
“This would serve the purpose of the day,” he said.
Speaking on the progress made by the university since its inception, the governor sought more academic activities from time to time.
Stressing the strong need to have better coordination among teachers and students, he further urged the faculties to take responsibility to work for the overall personality growth of the students, besides being a coach, friend, philosopher and guide to them.
The governor said that a conducive atmosphere is a prerequisite to facilitate academic excellence and laid emphasis on discipline, good teaching, full learning attendance and good management to take the university ahead.
Transparency, accountability and honesty are some of the parameters for good administration and collective responsibility of all stakeholders are needed for an effective administration in the institution, he stated on the occasion, he said.
Earlier, the governor offered floral tribute at the Wall of Heroes and inaugurated the XL Foundation Day Exhibition organised to mark the occasion.
Former vice-chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, K K Agarwal, while delivering the foundation day address, called upon all to work towards making RGU a better and sustainable institution in the days to come.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata director Sarup Prasad Ghosh in his keynote address highlighted the National Education Policy 2020.
Earlier, Prof Kushwaha spoke on the achievements and progress of the university since it was established on February 4, 1984, and after it was converted into a Central University on April 9, 2007.
XL Foundation Day Celebration Committee chairperson Sarit K Chaudhuri and RGU registrar N T Rikam also spoke on the occasion.
The felicitation of retired employees of RGU by the governor and the rendition of the university song by students of the department of fine arts and music were the other highlights of the programme.
