Itanagar: Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra on Thursday called for strengthening Lokayukta, the institution of ombudsman, both in terms of functional autonomy and availability of manpower.
Interacting with Lokayukta chairperson Justice (Retd) P K Saikia who called on him at Raj Bhawan here, the governor said that corruption is perceived as a major crisis capable of jeopardizing society’s stability and protection.
“Corruption undermines the values of democracy and morality by threatening the nation’s social, economic, and political development so Lokayukta must be strengthened to tackle the problem,” Mishra said.
Sharing his concern and stressing on probity in public life, the governor said that there is a need for decentralization of institutions with appropriate accountability mechanisms so as to avoid the concentration of too much power, in any one institution or authority.
Earlier, Saikia submitted the annual report of Lokayukta, Arunachal Pradesh to the governor.
Lokayukta member Yeshi Tsering accompanied the chairperson during the call on.
Women can proposer through skill upgrade:
First Lady of the state, Neelam Misra on Thursday said the promotion of women has been slow due to the lack of socio-economic and educational awareness.
The only way to break this shackle and make them self-reliant is through skill development, she said at the valedictory function of the 15-day skill development training programme at Yupia.
The programme was organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank-Rural Self Employment Training Institute (APRB-RSETI) and Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS).
Misra commended the APSCW, APRB and APWWS for their women empowerment initiative.
She urged the organisations and other NGOs to conduct skill development for the wider rural communities, including women and girls. She called upon the people to form self-help groups or cooperative societies for start-ups and brand marketing of their products.
The First Lady said women of Arunachal Pradesh are very skilful in art and crafts and with little support for innovation, their produce can go from “local to global”. She appealed to the people, especially the women to come forward and be promoters of the economic growth of the state. It will also contribute towards Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, she added.
Kenjum Pakam, chairperson of APSCW, Balban Deori of APRB-RSETI, Martin Tayeng, faculty cum training coordinator and Somna Moidam, member cum training coordinator also spoke on the occasion.
The 30 trainees from Papum Pare, West Siang, East Siang, Lower Siang, Siang, Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri, Shi-Yomi, Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey and East Kameng districts of different age groups availed of the training on mushroom cultivation, papad, pickle and masala powder-making and soft toy-making.
