Bomdila: The West Kameng unit of Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) on Friday organized a ‘Shraddhanjali Sabha’ at the Government College here to pay tributes to the legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar who breathed her last on February 06.
She was 92.
Paying her homage to the Nightingale of India, APLS, West Kameng president Dr Vineeta Dowerah said: “Music and literature are strongly interconnected because music is a genre of literature and both music and literature are creative works of art.”
“Music is also narrowed down to oral literature since its presentation and performance involves word of mouth,” she said.
Dr Alok Kumar Singh, the district unit’s general secretary, spoke of the life and contributions of Late Mangeshkar and said that she was the most influential singer of the nation who was adored by billions of fans across the globe.
“After the Indo-China war of 1962, Lata ji’s song “E mere watan ke logon”, which she sang at the then National Stadium in New Delhi on January 26, 1963, inspired and motivated not only the Indian army, but also the entire countrymen,” Dr Singh said.
A short documentary on Mangeshkar’s life was presented by Tashi Dorjee Megeji, the convenor of APLS, West Kameng.
Earlier, Sangja Khandu, Bomdila Government College principal and also the literary society’s chief advisor and others paid floral tributes to the late singing maestro.
The programme concluded with the college students singing a tribute song in memory of the melody queen.
Born on September 28, 1929, Late Mangeshkar is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential singers in India.
Her contribution to the Indian music industry in a career spanning over seven decades gained her several honorific titles such as the Nightingale of India, Voice of the Millennium and Queen of Melody.
She was also awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour in 2001 in recognition of her contributions to the nation. (With inputs from Wikipedia)
