Bomdila: Guinness World Record holder mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa on Wednesday advocated for formulating an adventure tourism and sports policy in Arunachal Pradesh to push the state’s potentials in these fronts.
“Arunachal is a goldmine for adventure tourism and to harness its potential, the government should immediately formulate an adventure tourism and sports policy. The topography and climate of the region is well suited for activities such as camping, trekking, mountaineering, cycling, river rafting, paragliding, etc,” she said.
Anshu, who was addressing the valedictory function of the five-day-long Adventure Tourism Workshop here, also emphasized on building a tourism workforce among the youth.
“These youths should be well trained, knowledgeable and passionate about tourism,” she said.
Speaking as one of the resource persons, Guwahati based adventure trip organizer Hemen Bora said Arunachal has a fragile ecosystem.
Instead of following the conventional idea of tourism viz. mass tourism, he advocated for the promotion of Arunachal as a destination for the discerning travelers/visitors who will appreciate the distinct flora and fauna of the state.
Jolly Saikia, also resource person for the workshop, said the field of adventure tourism is a collection of opportunities and a pool of knowledge to dive into.
“Conducting workshops in this sector for the young minds is a brilliant way of providing exposure to them so that they can take adventure tourism as a career option in the future,” she said.
Saikia also appreciated the efforts of Anshu and Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association (AMASA) president Tsering Wange for providing the required platform for the youths.
Everester Nima Lama spoke at length on the importance of adventure equipment and gears and their proper maintenance, which he said is the lifeline of an adventurer.
Renowned photographer Moge Riba and drone pilot Ashan Karchung Sangchajo taught the trainees the nitty gritties of photography and drone use from the tourism perspective.
The workshop organized by the AMASA under the aegis of Indiatourism Guwahati, Ministry of Tourism saw the participation of 42 youths while 22 selected trainees also attended the two-day outdoor adventure training at Chander which is located at height of 9420 feet above sea level.
