Arunachal: 42 kg ganja seized in Balijan, one held

Itanagar: The anti-drug squad (ADS) of Papum Pare (Rural) police on Saturday arrested a man for possession of illicit drugs and seized around 46 kilos of ganja from his possession.

Acting on a tip off received from a reliable source, the ADS led by Balijan sub-divisional police officer Maga Tago, Hollongi police station in-charge sub-inspector M Hussain and his Rajgarh, Assam counterpart intercepted the car one Nabam Bishnu was travelling near the Magoni Bridge in Balijan.

Following the search of the vehicle bearing registration number AS 07 E 3778, the police came across three bags full of suspected cannabis which weighed around 46 kilos.

The cannabis was seized and the man was also arrested in the presence of Balijan executive magistrate Marchina Boria and two other independent witnesses.

The accused is a native of Upper Bormai village in Papum Pare district.

A case under section 20(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 has been registered at the Balijan police station and further investigation is being carried out to ascertain the modus operandi and arrest others who are involved in the case, the police said.
