Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) president Amar Sangno on Tuesday handed over the International Press Cards (IPC) to 17 working members of the union at the Press Club here.
The IPC is issued only to the members of national journalists’ organisations by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the APUWJ is a member of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU).
The identity card is one of the oldest and most reputable identifications for working journalists across the globe.
Sangno said the IPC is also considered one of the most effective cards for working journalists and is accepted by more than 130 countries.
“The IPC is an instant and internationally recognisable professional identification and is the only press pass endorsed by national journalists’ organizations,” he said.
The APUWJ president said annually, 100 applicants can apply for the card along with the minimal cost for the jacket.
Sangno said the card, one of the most reputed, will benefit the local working journalists in cross-border journalism as well as while reporting in any conflict zone.
The IPC provides instant confirmation that the bearer is a professional working journalist. It is only issued to genuine journalists who are committed to ethical standards and solidarity between media professionals, he said.
The IPC was launched in 1927 at the Monaco IFJ World Congress.
Sangno, who earlier attended the 31st IFJ World Congress-2022 organised by the Oman Journalists’ Association in Muscat, Oman, said it was a privilege to represent the country at the international Congress.
Sangno also was nominated as a steering committee member for the proceedings of the Federation of Asia-Pacific Journalists, where shared his opinions with the IFJ members.
“The four days of the IFJ World Congress was a learning experience for me. Besides meeting inspiring journalists, it was learning about the working of various international journalists’ unions and their approach towards the safety and integrity of journalists which inspired me the most,” he added.
He said usually issues related to journalists in every country are placed in the meeting, where a sturdy resolution is adopted and tabled in the UN, UNESCO and authorities concerned in the respective countries.
Among others, Arunachal Press Club (APC) president Dodum Yangfo was also present on the occasion.
