Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has expressed deep concern and alarm following a distressing report of the rape of a woman with special needs in the Lower Dibang Valley district.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of October 04, has ignited public outrage and calls for more stringent measures to protect the safety of women and children in the state.
According to reports published in local newspapers, the woman fell victim to a horrifying assault when a man named Kyakang Warang allegedly entered her home in Taloni village under the pretext of seeking shelter from the rain. The accused is reported to have subjected the victim to multiple attacks with a machete, resulting in severe injuries. Warang was stationed at a nearby labor camp.
“We appreciate the prompt arrest of the alleged accused by the police and also acknowledge the courage shown by the family members in reporting the case to the police, despite their remote location in Taloni, where there are no motorable roads. We urge the police to thoroughly and diligently investigate the case and file the charge-sheet promptly,” APWWS president Kani Nada Maling said in a statement.
The society has also called for more effective measures to ensure the safety of women and children in the state.
Maling emphasized that victims and their families often face mistreatment when dealing with investigating officers at police stations and requested all police officers in the state to handle sensitive cases involving women and children impartially and without prejudice.
